The 2024 FISU World Championship Golf goes to Spain and Italy
The final day of the 2024 FISU World University Championship Golf started with an exciting situation, both in terms of results and conditions. The tee times started at 8AM from the 1st and 10th tees. After two hours, the rounds were halted due to a thunderstorm. Fortunately, the game was resumed about half an hour later in good, though slightly windy, conditions.
In the women's competition, the situation remained incredibly tight until the end. The lead changed multiple times throughout the day among South Korea, Italy, and Spain. The decisive moments came only on the final holes; Italy’s Anna Zanusso and South Korea’s Jung Won Choi both finished with par scores, and thus, Anna Zanusso, who started the day in the lead, was crowned the women's champion with a one-stroke lead (285) over South Korea's Choi (286). Spain’s Daniela Campillo Martinez finished third with a score of 289.
In the men’s competition, there was a close battle until the very end, with the lead shifting between the front and back nines. Excellent ball-striking was particularly evident on the back nine. The leading Spanish duo, Pablo Ereno Perez and Albert Boneta Cami, held the first and second positions throughout the fourth day, both finishing with par scores. France’s Louis Paulus moved into third place with par scores,, surpassing Hong Kong, China’s Alexander Hiu Wai Yang, who finished slightly behind Paulus with +2. Consequently, Pablo, ranked 47th on the amateur world list, secured the Student World Championship gold with an eight-under-par score, while his compatriot Albert claimed silver with a six-under-par score. France’s Louis Paulus took the bronze with a five-under-par score.

In the women’s team competition, Spain claimed victory with a score of -5. South Korea finished in second place with a score of -3, and Italy's team achieved third place with the same score of -3. After the 3rd day, Spain leads the men’s and Italy leads the women’s competition
The third day of competition brought warm and sunny weather, which was surely appreciated by both players and spectators. As with yesterday, today’s round also started with the men.
Spain’s Pablo Ereno Perez, currently ranked 47th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, shot a 66 (-6) and moved into the lead in the men’s competition. Hong Kong's Alexander Hiu Wai also delivered an impressive performance, shooting a 68 (-4) and moving up to third place. Japan’s Shohei Oda played well, carding a 69 (-3) and moving to sixth place. Spain’s Albert Boneta Cami, who performed exceptionally well on Wednesday, shot one over par and dropped to second place.

The 2nd day of the competition brought changes to the scoreboard at the 2024 FISU WUC Golf!
The second day of the competition (Wednesday) was kicked off by the men with early morning starts. In terms of conditions, there was no significant difference from the previous day, with the weather being cloudy and slightly windy. However, by the end of the day, the names on the scoreboard had changed. Albert Boneta Cami from Spain climbed to the top, by scoring the day's best result 66 (-6) The second-best round today was played by Finland’s Saku Halonen, who scored 68 (-4), boosting himself to a tie for 5th place. Switzerland’s Max Schliesing played also a good game today, carding a 69 (-3).

Amazing start to the 2024 FISU World University Championship Golf!
The 2024 FISU World University Championship Golf started on Tuesday morning with the women's competition. Daniela Campillo Martínez from Spain was the best player of the opening day with the result 65 (-7). The result is also the new field record at the Ruuhikoskigolf. Three players along Daniela reached result under par: Lucie Charbonnier FRA (-2), Jung Won Choi KOR (-1) and Elena Verticchio ITA (-1). Elena also scored a hole-in-one on 16th!
Spain leads the women's team competition after the first day with the result -4. Italy is on the second place with par and South-Korea is third (+1).
Men's competition was tight and the second day will start with very interesting setting. Louis Paulus FRA and William Forgues CAN are sharing the first place with the result 67 (-5). Alexander Hiu Wai Yang HK is third after first day with 68 points (-4). Situation behind TOP3 is also very interesting: eleven men scored result under par.
Hong Kong has taken the lead in men's team competition during the first day (-6). Canada is right behind with -5 and France is in third place with -3.

Impressive lineup of players at Finland's first World Championships in Golf at Ruuhikosk
The 2024 FISU World University Championship Golf will be played in Kuortane and Seinäjoki next week, on 27-30 August 2024. The International University Sports Federation (FISU) awarded the World Championship to Finland, to Kuortane, and Seinäjoki a couple of years ago. This event will be the fourth FISU World University Championship which Kuortane Olympic Training Center has hosted, having previously organized events in floorball, wrestling, and orienteering.
The championships will feature 87 players from 20 countries around the world. In addition to the host nation, teams from Spain, Republic of Korea, Japan, Germany, France, Canada, South Africa, Peoples Republic of China, Australia, Switzerland, Ireland, Italy, Hong Kong, China, Belgium, Slovakia, Chinese Taipei, Switzerland, Czechia and Mongolia will be competing. The four-day event includes both individual and team competitions for men and women. Some of the top-ranked players participating, have world amateur rankings just outside the top 100.

Eeli Kujanpää and this year's 21-year-old Finnish champion, Helmiina Rutanen, will have the advantage of playing on their home course. However, the top Finnish name to follow is Elina Saksa, the 2023 Finnish Stroke Play Champion, who also played a key role in the recent Women's European Team Championship.
The Kuortane Olympic Training Center, which serves as the event's athlete village, is a familiar venue for FISU officials, as previous World University Championships have been organized there using the same format. Kuortane is a 30-minute drive from the Championship-level Ruuhikoski golf course, with daily bus transportation provided for the players.
